The 2019 Peer-supported Open Dialogue conference is upon us. Peer-supported Open Dialogue is a form of client-driven, relationship-centred mental healthcare that brings friends, families and peers together to support the person experiencing distress, helping them make sense of their experiences and find a way forward together. It is a systemic, less hierarchical and highly collaborative way of working that is different to the more top down 1:1 approach most receive today. The emphasis is thus always on enabling the person at the centre of care to take control and gain a sense of agency together with their social network.
The world’s largest trial of Open Dialogue is now underway in the UK and Devon is a key site in that trial so we will be holding our conference this year in sunny Torquay. We have a lot to report on with the launch and progress of the trial this year and you’ll hear from clinicians, family members, service users and academics about the story so far and plans for the future of Open Dialogue in the NHS.
Tickets are on a donations basis – so pay as much or as little as you like – and it all goes to the cause of promoting Peer-supported Open Dialogue in the NHS. The event is sponsored by NELFT NHS Trust, and its Open Dialogue inspired national referral service; Dialogue First.
