Online mental health support for you and your child
As the nation marks Children’s Mental Health Week this week we’d like to remind you about NHS Wales’ online cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT) service and tell you a little about how it can benefit you and your child.
Research suggests a quarter of secondary school learners in Wales have reported high levels of mental health symptoms in the years following the pandemic.
NHS Wales’ online CBT service is here to help, with a raft of programmes designed specifically with young people and their parents or carers in mind.
Teens aged 16-18 can sign up to one of three programmes addressing low mood and anxiety, without adult consent or GP referral, and – as exam season looms – each programme includes an additional module on managing study and exam stress. Meanwhile parents and carers have access to two programmes for help supporting a child aged 4-18 experiencing low to moderate anxiety.
Studies show that around half of mental health problems are established by the age of 14, highlighting the importance of early intervention.
NHS Wales’ 12-week programmes are 100% free, and accessible anytime, anywhere on a phone, tablet or computer. Go at your own pace and discover tools and practical skills for recognising and dealing with anxiety and low mood.
There’s no waiting list. Progress is monitored by NHS professionals trained in digital mental health support who provide fortnightly feedback and guidance. They can also signpost more serious cases to access further support.
