Being Heard Workshop – Self-Advocacy for Carers
Self-advocacy is about being heard as well as speaking up for the person you care for. This workshop has been created especially for carers. It will take you through the Being Heard Guide which has been developed by Carers UK with Carers Wales to help anyone with caring responsibilities to gain confidence to:
• Understand your rights
• Communicate effectively with professionals
• Recognise your feelings Caring can be rewarding but also very isolating.
You may not know what help to ask for, how to ask, or indeed who to ask. Or you may want to be part of an empathetic group to learn new ways of approaching these stressful situations. The guide provides practical guidance on how to get your voice heard when you care for someone in what are often complicated and challenging circumstances. The workshop will take you through the steps necessary to use the skills of self-advocacy and give you the tools to ensure you will be heard.
